Wills Eye Hospital Receives Historic Multimillion Dollar Donation to Establish Strategic Initiatives Fund

PHILADELHIA—On December 8, 2025, Wills Eye Hospital, a global leader in ophthalmology established in 1832 as the nation’s first hospital specializing in eyecare, announced a historic multimillion dollar gift from James J. and Susan J. Anderson. The Andersons are “grateful patients” and longtime supporters, the Hospital said, and with this gift will establish a Strategic Initiatives Endowment Fund for the Wills Eye Foundation. Wills Eye Hospital is a non-profit specialty hospital that serves more than 350,000 patients every year, the Hospital said in an announcement.
