
UNCP Breaks Ground on Future Home of New College of Optometric Medicine

PEMBROKE, N.C.—The University of North Carolina at Pembroke announced it officially broke ground on construction of its new $96.8 million clinical sciences building on Friday, April 10, during a ceremony attended by university leaders, students, elected officials and community members. The 74,000-square-foot facility will serve as a hub for advanced health care education, housing the state’s first public College of Optometric Medicine, the occupational therapy program and additional clinical sciences programs, the announcement noted. Construction is expected to continue through 2028, the school advised, with the building scheduled to open in August 2028.
