A second anti-myopia contact lens, called “Be Free Day,” was launched in January of this year, and just today the company announced the FDA clearance of a multifocal toric design targeted at patients with concurrent myopia and astigmatism.Designed by researchers from the Brien Holden Vision Institute and distributed by Euclid Vision, the company says the material of the daily disposable lens is more than three times as breathable as similar lenses on the market. It’s made from silicone hydrogel (toufilcon B) with higher oxygen transmissibility (91 Dk/114 Dk/t) than MiSight’s omafilcon A material (25 Dk/t at -3.00D). The lens’ biomimetic surface helps retain moisture and resist deposit buildup, according to Euclid Vision. The optical design of the multifocal toric mirrors that of the Be Free Day spherical lens—with the addition of toric correction—promoting more subtle and gradual power changes to improve vision transitions and reduce halos and glare, developers say.  The FDA clearance states that the Be Free Day multifocal toric design is indicated “for daily wear for the correction of refractive ametropia (myopia and hyperopia) and/or presbyopia in aphakic and/or non-aphakic persons with non-diseased eyes in powers from +6.00D to -12.25D and with non-diseased eyes who may require a reading addition of +0.25D to +3.00D and have -3.50D of astigmatism or less.”The Be Free Day toric lens will be available in the US this fall, with three cylinder powers and six axis options, the company reports. For more information, go to https://euclidlenses.com/befreeday.
