CORE to Expand Scope, Integrate Into Waterloo Eye Institute and Welcome New Steering Committee

WATERLOO, Ontario—The Centre for Ocular Research and Education (CORE), the largest research center at the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science, is expanding its scope, the university announced, as it applies its nearly 40 years of research experience to a broader range of fields and integrates into the Waterloo Eye Institute (WEI). The center will still continue to carry out its front-of-eye research. As part of this transition, CORE’s leadership will change, the university stated, as a steering committee takes over strategic planning decisions of CORE from Lyndon Jones, Ph.D., DSc, who will step aside at the end of June after a 15-year tenure as CORE director. The university noted that “research partners will notice no difference” as this change takes place. Jill Woods, MSc, BSc., CORE’s head of clinical research, will chair the new steering committee.
