Prevent Blindness Cheers the Reintroduction of ‘Early Detection of Vision Impairments for Children Act’

CHICAGO—Nonprofit eye health and advocacy organization Prevent Blindness has announced its support for the reintroduction of the Early Detection of Vision Impairments for Children Act (EDVI) in the U.S. House of Representatives (H.R. 2527). Currently, the group advised, there are no federally funded programs in the U.S. that specifically address children’s vision or foster a cohesive system of eye health for children. If passed, the legislation would establish grants for states and communities to improve systems of care, the group said, and ensure that children throughout the U.S. have the chance for early identification and vision care coordination of potential vision problems.
