ALEXANDRIA, Va.—As the optical industry contends with ongoing uncertainties around tariffs and the roller coaster of implications on business and financial forecasts, The Vision Council continues to track the latest developments and keep members informed. In a decision on May 28 expected to bring relief to the optical industry and other business sectors, the U.S. Court of International Trade (CIT) permanently prohibited all tariffs imposed by President Trump under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). As members of the vision sector and others across the U.S. caught their breath, the following day, on May 29, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit issued a temporary stay, allowing the continued collection of these tariffs during the government's appeal process.
