NEW YORK, N.Y.—The State University of New York College of Optometry announced that it celebrated a historic milestone in optometric education with its 50th annual Residents’ Farewell Ceremony, held on Friday, June 13, according to an announcement from the school. The ceremony recognized both the achievements of the 34 members of the Residency Class of 2025 and the enduring impact of the nation’s first formal full-year optometric residency program, the announcement noted. “Fifty years of comprehensive residency training at SUNY have demonstrated the importance of optometry residencies in transforming career paths and changing the profession,” said David Troilo, Ph.D., president of SUNY College of Optometry.
