First Daily Multifocal Toric Lens Now Available

Patients living with both astigmatism and presbyopia who wear toric multifocal lenses previously only had options of monthly or quarterly replacement, but those who prefer a daily lens are now in luck. Johnson & Johnson recently announced the launch of a new addition to its Acuvue contact lens brand, called Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day Multifocal For Astigmatism.The daily disposable lens is made from silicone hydrogel material (senofilcon A) and has a water content of 38%. According to the company, the lens combines four proprietary elements to enhance comfort and visual performance:A stabilization mechanism minimizes lens rotation and helps keep vision clear when blinking or moving the head. The optical profile is calibrated for near, intermediate and distance focus to accommodate age-related vision changes. A unique polymerization process also used in other Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day lenses optimizes the wetting agent distribution to promote tear film stability and moisture retention.A blue-violet light filter blocks 60% of blue-violet wavelengths—the highest level offered in daily disposables, the company reports.In studies conducted by Johnson & Johnson, 95% of participants wearing the lens reported clear vision during daily activities, and 87% said they saw clearly while driving at night. The company also reported that 92% of participants felt comfortable wearing the lens throughout the entire day.Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day Multifocal for Astigmatism is now available in the US and Canada.
