Indiana University Researcher Receives Grant for Drug Therapy Study to Prevent Vision Loss After Brain Injury

INDIANAPOLIS—Arupratan Das, Ph.D., an assistant professor at the Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology, received a two-year, $200,000 grant from the Indiana Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Research Fund to investigate a promising drug therapy that may help prevent vision loss or traumatic optic neuropathy after a brain injury, according to an announcement from the school. In collaboration with Xiang Gao, Ph.D., assistant professor of neurological surgery at IU, Das will use a well-established model of traumatic brain injury (TBI) in mice to test whether giving the drug systematically can help preserve vision.
