University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Names Yutaka Maki, OD, Associate Dean of Optometry School Opening in Fall 2027

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) announced that it has named Yutaka Maki, OD, a nationally recognized optometric educator and clinician, as associate dean for academic affairs at the UTRGV School of Optometry, effective August 1. As part of Dr. Maki’s new role, he will oversee academic programs and policies, curriculum development and student academic progress in preparation for UTRGV’s launch of its new School of Optometry, slated for the fall of 2027. Dr. Maki joins William R. Miller, OD, Ph.D., who was appointed as founding dean of the school in January.
