CHICAGO—Prevent Blindness, a nonprofit eye health organization, has announced the creation of its new “Diabetes + the Eyes” advisory committee comprised of ophthalmologists, optometrists, public-health experts, industry leaders, patient advocates and individuals living with diabetes. The volunteer committee will support expanding education, improving access to eyecare, developing policy and advancing research and surveillance for early detection and treatment of diabetes-related eye diseases. Diabetes is a leading cause of blindness among American adults, with one in four people living with diabetes experiencing some form of diabetic retinopathy, Prevent Blindness said.
