The evolution of the slit lamp over time has equipped optometrists with advanced illumination and observation systems that can enhance the device’s ability to visualize minute structures and abnormalities. Recently, at the Congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, Haag-Streit announced the Elara 900, the company’s newest slit lamp, which it claims offers an easy-to-use optical system and enhanced projector illumination for better visualization. The device features one-touch “presets” that allow clinicians to instantly apply customized examination settings for different scenarios. A joystick also enables quick adjustments to height and magnification. An optional dual-camera setup allows for image and video capture in 4K, which the company touts is ideal for teaching and documentation.According to Haag-Streit, comfort is central to Elara’s design, which features inclined oculars, a spacious headrest and ergonomically placed controls that it says help reduce physical strain and support a more natural posture. It also features EMR connectivity and multi-device compatibility. Both the Elara 900 slit lamp and the Refractor 900 will make their US debut next month during the American Academy of Ophthalmology 2025 annual meeting in Orlando. For more information, go to https://us.haag-streit.com.
