COPE Reaffirms Substantive Equivalency With ACCME

CHARLOTTE, N.C.—The Council on Optometric Practitioner Education (COPE) has announced that the COPE continuing education (CE) accreditation system has reaffirmed substantive equivalency to the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) CME accreditation system, a status that COPE has held since 2017. This accreditation means the education received by optometrists is deemed equivalent to their colleagues in medicine, underscoring COPE’s commitment to high standards in CE for optometrists, the announcement stated. COPE-accredited CE is structured to be evidence-based, independent of commercial influence, and specifically tailored to the educational needs of optometrists.
