Christopher J. Rapuano, MD, Begins Term as 2026 President of American Academy of Ophthalmology

SAN FRANCISCO—The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) has announced that Christopher J. Rapuano, MD, has begun his one-year term as the 130th president of AAO. Chief of cornea service and the Peter and Ruth Laibson cornea service chief chair at Wills Eye Hospital, Dr. Rapuano has been involved in clinical education at the academy for more than 30 years, the announcement stated. He was elected to this leadership role by the AAO community of 32,000 ophthalmologists, the group stated, and will use his term “to jumpstart an effort to improve emergency eyecare services provided in hospital emergency rooms to ensure timely treatment for severe eye injuries.”
