MILAN, Italy—Italy’s eyewear industry kept production steady in 2025 but saw a decrease in exports as shipments to the United States plunged amid the impact of trade tensions and new tariffs and import duties imposed by the Trump administration, according to preliminary figures compiled by ANFAO, the Italian Optical Goods Manufacturers’ Association, last week. The association reported Italian eyewear production at €5.64 billion in 2025, which is stable compared with 2024; however, exports of frames, sunglasses and lenses, which account for about 90 percent of output, fell 3.9 percent in value to just over €5 billion.
