
The Duchess of Edinburgh Calls for Action on Avoidable Sight Loss Crisis

GENEVA—Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Edinburgh, global ambassador for the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), is calling for urgent action to address the global crisis of avoidable sight loss, according to an announcement from the organization. While attending the World Health Assembly for the first time, the Duchess underscored the global importance of addressing preventable blindness. Speaking to ministers of health, diplomats and international health leaders, the Duchess said more than 1 billion people are living with preventable or treatable sight loss “not through any lack of solutions, but through a lack of sustained, prioritized action.
